“Echoes of Silence” by The Weeknd (Mixtape)
Well, with Abel Tesfaye dropping the final mixtape Echoes of Silence of his trilogy, it is safe to say that 2011 was the year of the Weeknd. Yet to open up this bad boy but it is hard to say that it is not going to be absolutely bomb. Kicking off with House of Balloons which in my opinion was the best mixtape of the year, Abel has taken the year 2011 to completely revolutionize and re-jump the genre that is R&B with his unique and unbelievably vocals backed up by his groundbreaking production and overall aura that surrounds his music. That is all I will say for now but best believe you’ll hear more of my two cents regarding the Weeknd on the annual Dean’s Top Ten Songs of 2011 list coming December 29th, 2011…that’s right I said it get ready.

“Initiation” by The Weeknd

Yes, this post is heinously delayed but for those late on the bandwagon so impossibly necessary. Still with that unique Weeknd sound, Abel gets more on his lyrical game on this one which is interesting and pretty intriguing. Nothing really attached to this drop but hopefully this is an indication that Echoes of Silence is dropping soon.

“Shake It Out (Remix)” by Florence & The Machine Feat. The Weeknd

The Weeknd doing official remixes? Love to. My favorite new artist and probably the most hyped up act in the game right now puts his production skills to the test and it will make Flo and Weeknd fans alike happy. Abel tags his signature sound will with darkness, pain, and everything you expect to hear from a typical Weeknd track. If only Abel put some new vocals on this ish how sick would that have sounded…just sayin’.

Dopee Weeknd remix courtesy of Chi Duly on the production and our man Kenton Dunson on the vocals. Some really cool ish right here to definitely check out, if you’re either a Weeknd or KD fan I don’t even gotta ask what’s good.

“Thursday” by The Weeknd (Mixtape)

Oh my god it must be my birthday. I have been waiting for this mixtape for five months and finally it dropped last night. My favorite new artist in music right now Abel Tesfaye AKA The Weeknd is back with his follow up to House of Balloons which in my opinion is the mixtape of the year. The sense of character, darkness, glamour, and shame conveyed in listening to Abel’s music takes it to a unique level above what was the standard for the R&B genre. Like I have been saying I am in love with The Weeknd’s music and their creativity and artistic direction and I can’t wait to loop this mixtape on my drive to Rhode Island tonight…if I don’t know every lyric by the time I step out of my car there is something wrong with me.

“Live At The Mod Club” by The Weeknd (Mixtape)

So last week The Weeknd did his first ever performance at the Mod Club in Toronto and from what I have heard absolutely killed it. The show sold out in a ridiculous short period of time and the crowd was packed including names such as Drake and Baby. Abel played with a full band behind him and did a short 9 song set with “The Birds (Part 1) as the encore. For some reason no one in the audience had an actual speaker recorder so the quality of the tape is not very good but I don’t even care because I wanted to be at that concert so bad it fills my pain just enough. Weeknd fans I know you will be all about this and the rest of you need to get familar because Thursday is coming, oh yes it’s coming.

“Trust Issues (Remix)” by The Weeknd

Definitely saw this one happening and I don’t hate it. Co-signee does his rendition of his co-signer’s latest and very Weeknd-esque R&B track and of course I am a big fan. Weeknd has got that dank voice that crushes this 40 beat and only gets me more pumped for the Thursday to drop. Someone was also creative enough to make a remix combining both versions of the track which is also dope. Apparently Drizzy is set to collab a bunch with the Weeknd on Take Care and to say I am excited to hear those tracks is the most understated of understatements. OVOXO baby…love to.
