“Spring” by Fortune Family Feat. Upper West and Melody Noel
Fortune Family released their new track, “Spring” tonight, which is their second collaboration with Upper West and singer Melody Noel on the chorus. The track, produced by B-Nich, samples Sarah Bareilles “Uncharted” and is definitely a feel-good jam with some nice verses by the dudes. The guys are real proud of this one so make sure you check it out as well as show some love on their Facebook and Twitter.

“Living Dead” by Fortune Family

Two bosses from NY, Hobs and Reef, are back after their hit track Young Hearts with some laid back fire and hot verses that makes these guys dope. Some freshness from some fresh dudes…sorry I’m not sorry.

“Young Hearts” by Fortune Family
With a sick sample of Rod Stewart’s track, “Young Turks,” the long awaited arrival of new Fortune Family music is finally over. With the production on point and both of Hobson and Reef doing their thing, the duo pick up right where they left off…niiiice (Fabolous voice).

“Paradox” by Fortune Family [EP]

I’ve been trying to stay away from the up-and-coming dorm room rapper movement. Like yah, they relate well, but their music generally isn’t anything special. So I’ll admit, I slept on Fortune Family for a little while, writing them off as just another part of that fad.
But then I checked out their latest mixtape today on a tip and I was blown away. Normally I wouldn’t waste your time with two back-to-back EPs, but I don’t want other people to sleep on these boys like I did. Preview here and get the free download from Datpiff, no sign-up required. Some lyrics:
They call it “frat rap” cause I’m white and I drink your beer,
Really though I’m past that, I don’t write what you think you hear,
Why you gotta act like something is wrong?
Like it’s a problem if the college kids fuck with my songs…

“Take Me Away” by Fortune Family

I first heard of these dudes back in the shoutbox a few months ago. There’s something really believable and genuine in their music. They’re not your average store-brand college rappers. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but listen to this track and see if you agree. Shouts to Sarah Hirschfeld for brining them back onto my radar.

“My Energy” by Fortune Family
For some reason (and I know I probably shouldn’t admit this) I still check out the music that is dropped in the shout box. Generally it sucks. Like it really sucks. I’ve found that the amount of suckyness is directly correlated to the number of exclamation marks, bold claims about revolutionizing music, or capital letters that the post contains. But every once in awhile I find a song like this and remember why I bother.
Definitely a crack track from some up-and-coming artists that deserve some time in the spot light. Check it out.
