Mr. Glover AKA Childish has been subtly releasing some absolute fire in the past week. He first dropped the track “Black Faces” with a violent production courtesy of Boi-1da and The Maven Boys that caters to both Nipsey and Childish’s verses like clockwork…just spitting fire. The second track is a crazy but awesome collab where Grammy-Award-winning Alternative rocker Beck spits an awesome verse before Childish again murders his rhymes with his imagery, metaphors, and realness over another awesome production.

What’s happening? Is this a real song? Did this actually happen? The fine line between real/fake has been blurred out the ass when Childish released this track earlier today. Is Turquoise Jeep really for real? I don’t know but I’ll take it and it’s an absolutely great marketing play for everyone involved. As we all know Camp is set to be released November 15 but NPR music has released an exclusive first listen of the entire album for stream that you can check out HERE.. I know how all you kids love some Childish so here is a snippet of the track Childish performed a while ago that is very Freaks and Geeks-esque but some CG fire nonetheless. Since that performance, Donald has signed with Glassnote Records and has pushed back the release of Camp to November 1 and I’m pretty sure the two are related. Although we have to wait a while to hear this anticipated project hopefully he will drop some singles to keep us happy.

A few days ago Childish Gambino premiered a new track at Comic Con in at the House of Blues in San Diego supposedly called “Bonfire” that is expected to be on his new album Camp coming out later this year. From what you can tell from the video Donald does his usual thing going in crazy hard with witty punchlines on a hard ass beat. Apparently Gambino has gone cold turkey from Twitter to work on the album but if this track is any sort of preview to what the Camp is going to be like I’m not hating. Will absolutely be on the lookout for the track to officially drop..can’t wait

Just when you think the dude is going to take a breather, he comes right back at you with this fire. Childish comes at us with this sick twist of “All of The Lights” which is usual witty punchlines and some real talk about himself. CG is so consistent in creating sick tracks it is almost scary.

Sooo apparently Childish did this track hammered and absolutely killed it…that is some true talent right there. WIthout being edited/mastered, the production is sharp and CG is keeping his routine of killing bars. Love this dude and I am pretty sure you do too.

Wow. I think it may be time to start referring to this dudes as Childish Gambino a.k.a. Donald Glover and not vice versa. Childish is using his intellectual capacity and passion for hip-hop to truly be as he said the next “Weezy but geeky.” I can’t count the number of times I said “Oh Shitt!” after hearing one of several witty punchlines on this thing. I am thoroughly impressed. Keep killing it CG, every track you make is slowly but steadily changing hip-hop for the better.

Brenton Duvall has had his fair share of features and has seen a lot of love in the blog game recently. In the last few months he went from that college kid who made quirky mash-ups to a legitimate producer making beats for all sorts of artists. He goes back to his roots on this one, combining traditional mash-up techniques with his signature production. Plus it’s got Childish Gambino on the lyrics, so you know it’s gunna sound hot.

Jamie xx, the very talented beat maker for the group the xx, crushes this remix to Adele’s track, but that is not the most impressive thing about this track. Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino kills his verse with his clever punchlines that had me speechless first time I heard it. Love this dude and can’t wait for him to come out with more new music.

10. “All I Want Is You” by Miguel ft. J Cole – As I have said I am a sucker for great R & B and this is exactly the reason I have started my list with this jam. I love this low key beat with the background guitar perfectly accompanied by Miguel’s beautiful and almost haunting vocals. J. Cole does a great job with the verses and has had a monster 2010 rising up from the underground with jams like “Higher,” and his highly acclaimed mixtape, Friday Night Lights as well as being the first rapper to sign with Jay Z’s Roc Nation. The combination of Miguel’s great vocals and J. Cole’s lyricism makes this track a great starting point for my top 10.

9. “No Hands” by Waka Flocka Flame ft. Wale and Roscoe Dash- What can I say about this jam. Although I despise Waka Flocka Flame and often joke that he is one of the reasons for the “death of Hip-Hop,” for literally trying to murder beats by making shooting noises on his verses instead of actually constructing words and trying to rhyme them, I have to respect his success in 2010. This jam is a banger, catchy as hell and worthy to be in the top 10.

8. “I’m Single” by Lil Wayne- Although Rebirth was not a high point for Weezy in 2010, this was my favorite track off the album with “Drop the World” being a pretty close second. First off, the beat is trippy as hell and makes you feel like you are on sizzurp yourself. Secondly and probably most importantly, this was one rare Wayne track where, in the style of Kid Cudi and Kanye in his past two albums, he actually has a focused subject matter about his pains and escapes regarding relationships and tells a dark but convincing story. This song has definitely stuck with me and is not only one of my favorites of this year but also one of the most underrated as well.

7. “Shut It Down” by Drake ft. The Dream- I very much enjoyed Drizzy’s Thank Me Later this year, although I felt that it was not as strong as his mixtape material. I have to say that “Shut It Down” is tied for my favorite track with “Miss Me” but I have decided to choose “Shut It Down” in my list because it is easily the best R & B song of the year. As I have said since the beginning of Drizzy’s career, he is not only talented at writing witty punch lines, but is just as talented maybe even more so at making a mean R & B jam. When Drake puts on that crooning voice and starts to sing along with a smooth R & B beat, it is immediately DIIYD time for the ladies. But when you put Drizzy with R & B killa The Dream? Game over.

6. “Irish Celebration” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis- This song is on my list primarily because every time I hear it I can’t help but take pride in my Irish heritage and get an urge to take a pint of Guinness to the face. With a great and unique production of meshing a traditonal irish drinking song and hip-hop sound with Macklemore telling a great story, this jam is a must that definitely one that went under the radar this year…except maybe on St. Patty’s.

5. “Do Ya Like” by Childish Gambino- For those who downloaded Childish Gambino a.k.a. Donald Glover’s mixtape Culdesac this summer, I hope you came across this absolute jam. Not only is the production blazing with the bass and the great Adele sample, but I was totally blown away by his lyrical skills and his unbelievable punch lines. After I heard his line, “Girl I’m in love with you, but this is not tennis/Baby stay stacked like bad at Tetris” he really did have me convinced that he was “Weezy but Geeky.” Love this jam and arguably the most underrated track I have heard all year.

4. “Letting Go (Dutty Love)” by Sean Kingston ft. Nicki Minaj – Definition of a party banger right here. I don’t know if it because it reminds me of my experience in Barcelona this summer and the unbelieveable time I had there and the great friendships I made or if it is because this beat is addictive as hell, but I love this song. Yeah it might be mainstream, yeah it might be Sean Kingston, who cares? This song is too feel-good and makes you want to move too much to be denied…love to.

3. “Runaway” by Kanye West ft. Pusha T – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was one of the best albums of the year and although it has gotten a crazy amount of praise already, ‘Ye deserves credit where credit is due for this incredible album. Taking 808′s and Heartbreak to the HNL, Kanye’s innovative, creative and beautiful project pushed some serious boundaries in the hip-hop genre. I have some serious and the upmost respect and admiration for Mr. West, even though he did my girlfriend Ms. Swift wrong last year. Almost any song on the album could be on the list for best songs of the year but “Runaway” is probably my favorite and is rightfully high on my list.

2. “All Along” by Kid Cudi – The best and my favorite album of the year from my favorite artist. I wish I could put every song on Man on the Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager on this list, but unfortunately I couldn’t and have chosen “All Along” as arguably my favorite track from the album. It is hard to put my reasons for loving Cudi so much in words but what I will say is that “All Along” is so great because it provides a universal appeal to the inside of one’s thoughts and emotions. Cudi has prided himself as being “different” in the hip-hop genre and has brilliantly utilized his being different into creating music that is so creative, unique and relatable, that is has essentially become something more than the hip-hop genre. He has arguably created a new genre within hip hop in his ability to help people with his dark and troubling subject matters and topics that can appeal and are relatable to almost anyone, making the listener feel like he knows them personally. Cudi’s music is not just a way for him to vent and whine about his feelings but is something way bigger than himself and that is why I love his music of Kid Cudi and is why he is on my list.

1. “Hold Yuh (Fast Food Megamix)” by Gyptian ft. Nicki Minaj and Ricky Blaze- I can’t say enough about my favorite song of the year. Why is that the most simple beat I have ever heard is the best of the year? How come I wasn’t able to come up with that? The beat is so simple yet the most addicting of the year and was the go-to jam in all party situations. I also have to mention the fact that this is one of the first times I have heard Nicki Minaj, whose verse is dope as hell with her sassy swagger. The most important factor for me when I am determining whether or not I like is a song is the way it makes me feel. Thus, because this track is the most feel-good track of the year, it is therefore my favorite.

If you spend a lot of time on YouTube, you’ll probably recognize this guy from his sketches with Derrick Comedy. They’re the guys behind the Bro Rape Video, The National Spelling Bee and Girls Are Not To Be Trusted.

Anyways, I think they’re pretty hilarious so when I heard that Donald Glover aka the “Childish Gambino” was experimenting with a solo rap career, I was very intrigued.

He’s is obviously very intelligent having graduated from NYU, and he also knows how to connect ideas in an entertaining way. His vocals don’t exactly sound that hard, but he more than makes up for it with some sick punch lines. Definitely worth a listen, especially if you’re into dope lyricism.
